For second year in a row we achieved the Ecological Blue Flag in the Biodiversity category, this time with the highest level possible in this recognition of five stars.

We achieved this landmark thanks to our efforts to protect national wildlife and by training guides and providers countrywide in different methods of wildlife handling and good practices to care for your national greatest treasure, our nature.

We also achieved for 8th year in a row the Blue Flag in the Climate Change category, for your work towards sustainability, low carbon footprint, and other actions for our environment.

Biodiversity Blue Flag

The Ecological Blue Flag Program (PBAE) introduced a new category called “Biodiversity” that aims to encourage organizations and committees to conserve, restore and sustainably use biodiversity in the country.

This category is a country achievement that allows public entities to forge alliances with the private sector and civil society organizations, to promote the involvement of more actors in raising awareness and managing biodiversity.

The creation of the Biodiversity award was carried out by an inter-institutional committee of experts made up of the Business Alliance for Development (AED), the GIZ, the National Commission for the Management of Biodiversity (CONAGEBIO) of the MINAE, the Mesoamerican Alliance for Biodiversity (BPM), the Batalla law firm, the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Ecological Blue Flag Program

The PBAE is a free and voluntary program that rewards the organization, effort and excellence of local committees and their voluntary work to improve the hygienic and environmental conditions of Costa Rica. More information can be accessed at the page https://banderaazulecologica.org
