Touristic Sustainability

Swiss Travel has incorporated the principles of sustainability, in its three scopes, environmental, socio-cultural, and economic, as a transverse axis of its daily practices, thanks to the implementation of a Touristic Sustainability Management System. Through this system, in the form of programs and specific actions, we have been able to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, to contribute to the development of the communities with which we come in contact, and to ensure the appropriate profitability of the organization.

The result of these corrective measures has been the creation and documentation of different programs that respond to the specific needs of the Corporation, and can be catalogued within the three scopes of sustainability. Some of these initiatives are: the Program for the Correct Management of Solid Residues, the Program for Energetic Efficiency, the Education for Conservation Program, and the Forest Preservation Program, among others.

These efforts in sustainability have been crowned with the Certification for Touristic Sustainability (CST), awarded to Swiss Travel in 2006 by the Costa Rican Board of Tourism (ICT), and re-certified in 2009. Nonetheless, the company’s commitment is permanent, and as such, the continuity of these actions, and the innovation in its practices, must be ensured in favor of sustainable tourism.
