Policies on Payments, Cancelations and Refunds

Payment Methods

All payments must be made payable to Swiss Travel in U.S. dollars. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express credit cards. The full payment must be done when the customer agrees with the planned itinerary.

Cancelation Policy

All services must be paid immediately after confirmation. If you must cancel your trip or any particular booking or activity (hotels, tours and/or transportation), for any reason, please bear in mind that all cancelations must be received in writing (via e-mail).

  • Notice of 14 days or less prior to arrival : 100% charge
  • Notice of 15 to 29 days prior to arrival: 50% charge
  • Notice of 30 to 44 days prior to arrival: 15% charge
  • Notice of 45 days or more days prior to arrival: Full refund issued.

In any of the previous cases, supplier cancelation fees may apply.

Please be aware that the following hotels: Tabacón Grand Spa Thermal Resort, Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation & Inn, El Establo Mountain Hotel, Corteza Amarilla Art Lodge & Spa, Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, L’Acqua Viva Resort & Spa, Hotel Villa Caletas, Latitude 10 Beach Resort, Gaia Hotel & Reserve, Arenas del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, Lapa Ríos Rainforest Ecolodge, and Flor Blanca Resort, have specific cancelation policies that may apply.

This policy may not apply to hotels or tours of which Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. acts only as an intermediary, in which case the individual policies of the suppliers may apply.

Once travel commences, there will be no refunds made on unused portions, nor is the price or value exchangeable for alternative services.

Whenever able to cancel without provider penalties, Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A, will cancel services retaining only the amount of the deposit (US$ 50).

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A is not responsible for non-recoverable expenses incurred by travelers in preparing for a cancelled trip, such as a non-refundable advance purchase for hotel services, transfers, tours, etc., or for any necessary additional arrangements, should the applicant have been embarked prior the date of departure.

Certain hotels have more strict cancelation and refund policies. These vary according to each hotel, and depending on additional circumstances (time of the year, rate of occupancy). Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. strongly recommends its clients to purchase trip cancellation insurance to avoid any inconveniences. Given that this insurance is easily available and relatively inexpensive, we do not issue refunds for last minute cancelations.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. has the right to modify the original itinerary due to circumstances out of its control such as: weather conditions, strikes, fires, explosion, earthquakes, floods, epidemics, conditions of trails, river levels, road conditions, transportation delays, accidents, chance, force majeure, or other causes. In these specific cases, the service could be changed for another one, similar in category, place, activities, tours, and/or services.

Refunds:

In case of any cancelation made in accordance with our “Cancelation Policy”, any claims for refunds, if applicable, must be made in writing (via e-mail) within 30 days of the scheduled return. All negotiable vouchers must accompany the claim. No refunds will be issued for features included in our itineraries in which travelers chose not to partake. No refunds will be issued for missing transfers or sightseeing tours due to changes or delays in airline schedules.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. will not refund any amount for changes in travel arrangements made by the traveler after the date of departure.

Any service issue affecting the quality of the guest’s hotel stay must be addressed directly with the management staff at the hotel, at the time when the issue arises.

Any service issue affecting the quality of the guest’s tours or transportation must be addressed directly with the tour guide or person in charge of the service at the time when the issue arises.

In both cases, the guest must call our “Service Delivery Line” at its toll-free number 800-329-8687 or 2282-4898 ext: 1164, 1184, 1112, or 1121, to log a claim, and to receive assistance, since refunds cannot be issued for such inconveniences.

Responsibility

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. acts only as agent for the passenger in regard to travel, whether by road, railroad, boat, airplane, helicopter, or horse, and assumes no liability for injury, damage, loss, accident, delay, or irregularity which may be occasioned either by reason of defect in any vehicle or for any reason whatsoever or through the act of default of any hotel, carrier, boat, restaurant, company, or person, included on the trip, or any other circumstances beyond its direct control.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. will not refund those who, by their own decision/ responsibility or negligence, decide not to use some or any of the services included in their program and, it is the client’s responsibility to cover any expenses, if the modification(s) implicate any additional fees.


Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. has the right to modify the original itinerary due to circumstances out of its control, as well as to exclude a participant whose behavior is an inconvenience to the development of the itinerary, without compensation or refund.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A., and/or its agents, can accept no responsibility for losses or additional expenses due to the delay or changes in air schedules, theft, loss of (or damage to) baggage or any article belonging to the passengers, sickness, personal health, injuries, death, weather conditions, strikes, fires, explosion, earthquakes, floods, epidemics, conditions of trails, river levels, road conditions, transportation delays, wars, accidents, chance, force majeure, or other causes. All such losses or expenses will have to be borne by the passenger.

Many of the activities could be physically challenging. Every passenger is required to check the level of difficulty of the activities in his/her program; it is the passenger’s responsibility to judge the appropriateness of these travel activities, according to his/her physical capabilities. The passenger releases Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. of any responsibility.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. suggests that all participants be covered by appropriate life, accident, and medical insurance. The aforementioned participants will be financially responsible for such expenses.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. suggests that participants who are planning to operate a motor vehicle overseas should obtain liability and collision insurance that will cover them in Costa Rica. Insurance can be obtained at the car rental office.

Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. recommends that all participants insure their personal property in case of loss and/or theft. Servicio de Viajeros Suiza S.A. is not responsible for any costs or losses resulting from such events.
